The test is used to determine your risk of diabetes (pre-diabetes) or how well your diabetes is being managed. You should take this test if: You have diabetes type 1 or type 2 You have a family history of diabetes You are presenting with symptoms of diabetes The sample must be collected in the morning, preferably before 10 am on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and returned on the same day. Symptoms of type 1 and type 2 diabetes may include:

  • Urinating more than ten times a day
  • Persistent thirst
  • Feeling hungry even though you are eating a recommended calorie intake each day
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Dry eyes or blurred vision
  • Dry mouth or tongue
  • Itchy skin
  • Unexpected weight loss (type 1 Diabetes)
  • Pain or numbness in the hands (type 2 Diabetes)
